FormscanBy Donal Murphy - This looks an ultra-competitive affair, with nine of the field trained by Willie Mullins. One of his representatives is three time Grade One winner MIKAEL D'HAGUENET, and although his best years are behind him, he still has the ability to win a big pot like this. The ten-year-old is clearly better over flights than fences, and he showed his well-being by winning a three mile hurdle on his last start at Thurles. Ger Fox takes a valuable seven pound off his back here, and carrying ten stone twelve he should give a good account of himself. Zabana won a competitive contest over the trip at Leopardstown in January, and he then ran a cracker to finish fifth to Clondaw Kaempfer at Aintree last month. He looks to have solid claims carrying ten stone five, while others to consider are handicap debutant Azorian, Regal Encore with Tony McCoy aboard, recent Navan winner Hazariban, and Hisabaat for Dermot Weld and Davy Russell.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards (150 = 11st 10lb)Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race or hurdle races after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper. Any horse rated above 150 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 150 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 150 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
