FormscanBy Tom Weekes - This is a cracking hunter chase and MARITO might be capable of spoiling the party for marvelous hunter chaser On The Fringe, as he is now 5lbs better off than when failing by a neck to beat that rival at Cheltenham in March. He was a fine hurdler/chaser in his time and while he hasn't quite reached the top in hunter chase company, Noel McParlan is able to use his 5lbs claim here and the gelding may be the fresher of the two horses, having skipped Aintree. On The Fringe is chasing a back-to-back hat-trick of Cheltenham/Aintree/Punchestown big race wins and he seems as good as ever this year. He showed no ill affects of his busy spring campaign when winning this last year and is a very dependable type. Paint The Clouds enters calculations on the same basis that his rider is now able to claim 3lbs and while he also comes here fresh, has an extra length to find than MARITO. Nothing went right (unsuitable ground and tactics) when Salsify, a top hunter chaser himself, won at Cork latest but still retains plenty of his old ability and can also figure at the business end. Aupcharlie and Mendip Express (twice) have chased home On The Fringe in recent times and might again struggle to win.
