FormscanBy Donal Murphy - This looks a typically competitive Festival handicap, where a strong case can be made for a whole host of horses. Having said that, GLEN BEG is the one who stands out most for me. The Liz Doyle trained mare has performed consistently since winning at Naas in January, and she put in a fine performance to finish third in a handicap at the Aintree Grand National meeting on her last start. Kevin Sexton, who is in-line to be crowned champion conditional come the end of the week, takes a valuable five pound off, and the seven-year-old daughter of Norwich can be expected to give a good account of herself. Dalasiri won a nice pot at the Festival last year, and Sabrina Harty has booked Tom Scudamore to ride the grey gelding here. Harty has probably had this race in mind for the son of Dylan Thomas for a while now, and wearing cheekpieces for the first time the five-year-old should go close. The Game Changer is another interesting runner, taking a drop in class after competing in a Grade Two at Aintree on his last start. The Charlie Swan trained gelding will be more suited to this quality of opposition, and if he can reproduce his best he should go well. Ruby Walsh has picked to ride Lucky Bridle over City Slicker, and the Willie Mullins trained gelding can be expected to go close on his handicap debut, while Cool Macavity, Star Of Aragon and Sea Beat are others to consider.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards (150 = 11st 10lb)Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall not; be less than 11st 10lb Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race or hurdle races after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper. Any horse rated above 150 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 11st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 150 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any four year old rated above 150 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
