A 153 day absence from action proved no barrier to success for Darren Bunyan's Winston Wolfe as he got off the mark at the sixth attempt in the CEF Electrical Maiden at Dundalk.

A consistent sort, the Sir Prancealot gelding was rewarded here under Leigh Roche, coming home strongest to edge out Spiral Galaxy by a head.

Winston Wolfe was backed from 8/1 on track, and from bigger earlier, into a returned 5/1.

"We always knew he had ability to win a maiden but last year it took a while for the penny to drop with him and for him to put his head down and get galloping properly," said Roche.

"Darren popped him over a few hurdles recently and he's really matured and copped on from it.

"Tonight he jumped and travelled away. Kevin got a half length up on me but he put his head down and was game. He tried, galloped to the line and finished out well.

"I think he's going for a hurdle race, I'm not too sure, but if he is that will definitely be his game.

"He has plenty of scope, he's a good big fine horse who'll jump a hurdle."

By phone Darren Bunyan said later: "He'll go jumping but we're waiting for better ground. When we saw this race we decided to let him take his chance.

"He has schooled well and we'll just wait for a bit of nice ground and then go hurdling. I have to thank the owners (Shauna Carroll and Daniel Givens) for their patience with him."
