Liam Cusack is thrilled that Snugsborough Benny is guaranteed a run in the Boylesports Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.

The nine-year-old won a good pot at Galway in the summer, and returned to winning ways last time out at Fairyhouse.

“His season has gone very well,” said Cusack.

“He won the Blazers at Galway — which is a very competitive chase, on a tight track — and we were very happy the last day when he won a rated chase at Fairyhouse.

“I was delighted with the way he jumped and the way he went to the line.”

It was a performance which earned a crack at Easter Monday’s marathon showpiece.

Trainer Cusack added: “I was thrilled with him and thought it was his best performance to date.

“Even though the second horse probably went a little bit left and didn’t do himself any favours, I was just delighted with our lad.

“He came out of the race well — and after that, we decided to enter in the Irish National because he had gone up high enough in the ratings to get into it.

“It’s a serious pot to be going for, and it’s just nice to have a runner in an Irish National.”
