Formscan - A somewhat controversial winner of the Aintree Hurdle when causing interference on the run-in, IMPAIRE ET PASSE still looked the best horse in the race despite his errant ways and he could be the one to seal a historic British trainer's title for Willie Mullins. Anything like his best should be good enough, although connections of Langer Dan may feel confident of overturning the form from Aintree and a return to the Esher track should not inconvenience him, having won the Imperial Cup here in 2021. Runner-up to the latter in the Coral Cup and now 10lb better off at the weights, Ballyadam is a capable sort on his day and cannot be ruled out either.

I enjoyed that! He's a very good horse on his day and he's only good once a year, if that makes sense. He really turned up today and I thought he just outstayed Willie's horse from the back of the last. Ireland has been a brilliant place for me, I spent five fantastic years here. I learned an awful lot off Gordon (Elliott) and watched Jack grow up to be the man he is today, I watched him ride his first winner. Coming over and taking on the best of the Irish, the way national hunt racing is at the moment on both sides of the Irish Sea, it was something I always wanted to do — train a winner over here. I really enjoyed that, Ireland has been a very good place for me and to come back and have a big winner here is magic. I probably came over due to the lack of opportunities on our side of the sea. It's hard to win anywhere, it's hard to win in England let alone here. He didn't impress me at all, I was delighted he won, but throughout the race he wasn't impressing me. He looked like he wasn't enjoying it and maybe Cheltenham took much more out of him than we thought. At home he was on fire and maybe I did too much with him because he was going so well. It's hard to say something went wrong when you win by seven-and-a-half lengths. Maybe he loves the hill in Cheltenham, he just got going up the hill whereas today is a Flat track. I'll have a quick chat with Paul later on and see what he thought. Turning for home I wouldn't have backed him, so to win after that just means that he has a huge engine but he wasn't really in love with what he was doing today, whether it was the ground or what I don't know. I think we'll freshen him up now. Asterion Forlonge always likes to jump right, that's just his way of doing it but overall he jumped well. His jumping isn't going to change now with his age but it was a good performance. We went a nice gallop, didn't hang around and it is nice to get another win with him. I gave him a pop yesterday and he has always been a very good jumper at home and just has his own way of doing it. He is a high class horse and was bang there in those top Grade 1 chases so the ability is there.
