FormscanBy Mark Nunan - A ten length winner of a Ballysteen point-to-point a couple of years ago for Ellmarie Holden, CALTHOR ran well when beaten a little over five lengths on his only start over hurdles at Galway. Although a beaten favourite that day, the form reads well with the winner Belfast Banter going on to run well in a big handicap at Ascot and recently finishing second in a Grade 2 novice event at Naas. Calthor reverts back to hurdling having had three runs in beginners’ chases (catching the eye in the first of those at Navan) and may have the winning of this ‘unplaced maiden’. Howdyalikemenow was a couple of places behind Garm Colombe at Naas in December but is preferred to that rival after two decent runs in open maiden company subsequently, notably when not disgraced behind leading Ballymore fancy Gaillard Du Mesnil over Christmas. He looks a danger to the selection, while another to consider is New Ross who was in with a place chance (having been well-backed) when coming down at the last hurdle in the race won by Breakeven at Fairyhouse.
