The 5/4 favourite Special Power snapped a run of five second place finishes when landing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden.

Andrew Slattery’s mount was slowly away and appeared to have plenty to do turning for home but picked up well and was in front over a furlong out. Racing over six furlongs for the first time, the Slade Power gelding saw out the trip well to beat El Magnifique by a length and a quarter.

Third home Enjoymyslipstream unfortunately went wrong just as she approached the finishing line.

Winning trainer Andy Slattery said: "That's a relief I suppose. He had thrown away a few races, he did that well enough even though he was a bit slow away.

“He might run in the Birdcatcher on Sunday, it's maybe not the way to go about it as he's 2lb out of the handicap (before his 6lb penalty is factored in) but he might as well finish off for the season.

“He'll go on any ground and maybe holding him up and coming late in a better type of a race might suit him better.

“He was going well everywhere there until he hit the front and then he started idling again. In a better race we might drop him in, try and come late and grab a bit of money.”
