The absence of Backoftherock and Synchronicity left the way open for reserve Alelchi Inois to make his Irish debut in the two-mile maiden hurdle and the evens favourite duly delivered in good style.

Ruby Walsh had the five-year-old close to the pace throughout, and the French import asserted in the straight to beat Dancing Roe (11/1) by three and a half lengths. Elijah Gardner (6/1) was all of 12 lengths further back in third.

The Willie Mullins-trained winner carries the colours of Margaret McMahon and her son Luke commented, “Harold Kirk bought him in France about 18 months ago but he’s had a few problems and missed last season.

“He jumps really well and should make a nice chaser in time. He’s not one to risk on fast ground, so the weather will determine what we do with him now.”
