Liam Cusack will consider autumn handicaps either side of the Irish Sea for Snugsborough Benny, following his excellent effort to snatch third in the Galway Plate.

The nine-year-old made up a lot of ground in the closing stages to take minor honours behind Borice in the valuable handicap chase over an extended two and three-quarter miles.

County Laois trainer Cusack said: "We could have done with a drop of rain to slow things down a bit — but he ran a great race, and we were very happy.

"The Galway Plate is always a competitive race, and there is a better class of horse running in it now. The prize-money is so good.

"It was brilliant that he was so competitive in it."

Cusack is happy to give Snugsborough Benny a short break, before pinpointing his next target.

He said: "I've nothing planned really - (but) he’ll go for those nice handicaps. I just gave him a chance after Galway, and we’ll come back for those races later on.

"I’ll keep the options open and discuss it with the owners. He’ll probably have a few entries in England, and we’ll go from there.

"Ground-wise, he probably doesn’t want it too quick - he is versatile and will handle soft as well.

"We’ll just have to pick our battles. At that level, it is very competitive racing, so we'll see if we can pick one."
