Champion Jockey Paul Townend completed an 'outside rides' double at Cork today, steering in-foal Rain In Spain to win the Follow Us On Instagram Mares Handicap Hurdle for trainer Charles O'Brien.

Townend was crowned Champion Jockey in 2020/'21 riding 94 of his 100 winners for employer Willie Mullins and having returned from injury on July 1, rode his fifth winner of the new season on Rain In Spain, with all five being non-Mullins trained horses.

Townend, earlier successful on Henry De Bromhead's Gloire D'Athon, stated “I commented how sweet she (Rain In Spain) was and I was told she is in-foal to Walk In The Park, so that makes sense. I couldn't believe how well she was and how sweet she travelled.”

It was Townend's third win on the daughter of Jeremy and he added “she has been good to me and in fairness I have a soft spot for her as she always comes up trumps. I don't know how long more she can race but I'd imagine they'll keep going for as long as they can - why not on the back of that.”
