John Joe Walsh had a Galway races to forget but the trainer did record a winner at Cork today as his Shadows Return (16/1) won the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Handicap Hurdle for owner/jockey, father/son combination of Liam and Frank Hayes.

Walsh's three runners were unplaced at Galway, including David's Charm's ninth placed effort in the Galway Hurdle, and he later said “it was a change of luck as we (David's Charm) were left at the start and had no chance. He turned back when the tapes went back but we'll have another day, maybe at Listowel.

“I'd like to go further than the two miles but there's nothing else there for him but he's home safe anyway and that's the main thing.”

Regarding Shadows Return, he added “he maybe made too much use of her the last day and she settled her in and gave her a nice little ride today.

“It wasn't a surprise she won as she wanted to be switched off and she has plenty ability. She has loads of toe and isn't a bad mare. Frank works for me and his father Liam, a farmer in Thurles, owns her.”
