Classic Concorde made a nonsense of his 22/1 starting price with a twenty seven length demolition of the opposition in the Granite & Marble Crafts Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse.
Adding to a Kilbeggan handicap hurdle success from June 2019, it was Dillon Maxwell that was again aboard for the Saffron and Green Syndicate and trainer Andy McNamara. Ask Cory was the one to do best of the rest but there was no living with Classic Concorde as he chased the leaders, going second after the tenth.
The Shantou gelding then made his move four out, leading before three out, and soon stretching clear.
Still travelling smoothly from two out Classic Concorde might not have been fluent at the last but that was no issue at all for the easy winner.
“He was going to win a hurdle race this time last year in Down Royal and he absolutely reefed a hind leg off himself jumping the last,” said McNamara.
“He lost his way and after Limerick the last day we were wondering about giving up on him. We said we’d give him a little break and have one more go.
“He’s won 27 lengths so he might struggle a bit in a handicap now. He might have to go back hurdling after that.
“It’s good to get that and hopefully there might be another one in him.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Clonguile Way trained by Gavin Cromwell, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
At the request of the Stewards, J.M. Moore, rider of Clonguile Way, trained by Gavin Cromwell, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake at the first fence and never travelled thereafter.
