Michael O' Callaghan says that Crispy Cat remains an exciting prospect despite the colt finishing in rear in Saturdays Railway Stakes at the Curragh.
An unlucky in running third at Royal Ascot earlier this month, the trainer felt the horse may have underperformed due to backing up too quickly. He was at pains to stress that the Amo Racing owned juvenile is much better than he showed at the weekend.
O'Callaghan said; "You can just put a line through it.
"Obviously, he ran a huge race last week and probably should have won the Norfolk, but maybe he wouldn't have but we thought he might have. He possibly should have won, definitely would have been second.
"He was very, very unlucky and came out today and he has obviously run his heart out last week. It has left a mark on him today. He hasn't run his race and we just put a line through it.
"He might run in the Gimcrack (at York), we'll just freshen him up. We think he is a very, very good horse."
Crispy Cat made a winning debut at Cork in April, before finishing second in two subsequent starts in listed company. However, it was his run in the Norfolk Stakes that really captured the attention. Additional reporting by Michael Graham
