Review WEXFORD 5TH AUG

Khairambar proved much too good for his rivals in the Parkhouse Stud Chase at Wexford as he cruised to an easy three length success.

Dessie Hughes' gelding was sent off 6/4f for the two mile event and punters had few worries as he loomed large at the second last.

Paddy Flood got a good leap from the grey at the penultimate fence and he was soon in front. He didn't need to get serious with the gelding down the straight to gain a cosy win over Safe Route.

'He can be a bit free but Paddy switched him off well and arrived with a well-timed run,' said Hughes afterwards.

Steve Mahon's smart bumper performer Dawadari got off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt when grinding out a victory in the Nick O'Donnell Memorial Maiden Hurdle.

Southern Style opened a clear lead early on and had her rivals struggling from three out. Dawadari responded well to the driving of Bobby McNally, however, and pegged back the leader after the last to score by a length-and-a-half.

'He probably needs further as he was flat out the whole way,' said Mahon. 'He possibly needs an easy three miles.'

Long Journey proved well named as the six-year-old was breaking his duck after almost four years on the racecourse when landing the Newtown Handicap.

The Robbie Osborne-trained entire has 'suffered lots of setbacks' but showed his ability when cruising into the lead entering the straight and going away for an easy four-and-a-half length victory under Robbie Burke.

Fire Finch gained a deserved victory when claiming the Selskar Maiden in good style. Tom Hogan's filly kept on well for Seamus Heffernan, after being sent into the lead turning for home, and recorded a two-length win over Out In The Open.

Leading apprentice Chris Hayes was on the mark again when Luckahocka struck in the Derrinstown Apprentice Handicap. Pat Hughes' mare asserted in the straight to beat Amisina by two lengths.

Eddie Power produced Brave Castaway with a strong run after the last to spring a 33/1 shock in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle. Winning trainer Tony Seymour was full of praise for the young jockey.
