Review TRAMORE 17TH AUG

Davy Russell was in the thick of the action from the outset, his mount Golden Future was first past the post in the opener (later disqualified) but the Youghal-native gained compensation half-an-hour later.

In the juvenile hurdle, Golden Future made most but Haroni was hampered when trying to challenge and in the view of the stewards the placings had to be reversed.

Tommy Treacy rode Haroni, who was a head down at the line for Frances Crowley. The Kilkenny rider was hit with a 7 day ban for striking Golden Future when attempting to get up the inner.

His offence was termed riding improperly whilst Russell will have an enforced two day holiday for careless riding.

Jawad has been an improved performer since returning from a lengthy break this summer. Russell doubled up on Joanna Morgan's Kahyasi gelding in the h'cap hurdle.

Just 8 days after he lost his maiden tag at Sligo, off a 9Ib higher mark here, the 5yo, bought by his trainer as a foal for 13,000 guineas, led soon after 2 out and kept on well to score by 2L.

King Rama became the fourth four time h'cap winner of the campaign, joining Dame Noir, Ireland's Call and Breaker Morant when he won the Tote Ireland Handicap.

Held up by Fran Berry, the son of Kingmambo made his move down the back straight, led under a furlong out and kept on well to justify favouritism by 2L for John Kiely.

Berry later completed a double on the heavily-backed Aracena (8/13 favourite), comprehensive victor of the maiden in the Aga Khan colours for John Oxx.

Pat Flynn, out of luck with River Nurey, runner-up to King Rama, and with Bahrain Storm in the first, trained the second Waterford winner of the evening in the 3yo h'cap.

Face The Sun was always to the fore under Danny Grant and she had enough in reserve to hold off May Tobin by three parts of a length.

Flynn registered a brace afterwards in the concluding maiden with Port Jeff, to reward his supporters at odds of 54/1.

This one under Adrienne Foley led home a one, two, three of Deise-county trained horses, appropriately enough on Waterford Hurlers evening.

Markason gained his fourth success in as many months when he won the h'cap chase for Gerry Cully and Davy Condon.

Of course many will remember this fellow for the gamble he landed at Fairyhouse back in November 2004 on soft to heavy ground but he has really come into his own recently on a better surface.
