Review LISTOWEL 19TH SEP

Jubilant Note was a stylish winner of the Lartigue Hurdle on day two at Listowel.

Davy Russell's mount kicked for home before the turn in the 55,000 event and soon had his rivals struggling.

The gelding stayed on strongly in the straight to record a five-and-a-half length verdict over Querido, giving trainer Mick Murphy his biggest success to date.

'It's a big pot so it's great to win it,' said a delighted Murphy. 'This horse needs good ground and it's likely to go against him soon. He may go across the water.'

John Cullen partnered his first winner since returning from a shoulder injury when Dostoievsky landed a nice gamble in the T.P. Walsh Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

Paul Nolan's gelding, supported from 6/1 in the morning, was backed from 3/1 to 2/1f on course and Cullen was seen to good effect, leading after three out and keeping his mount going for a length success over Upyaboya.

'He got a leg last year after winning - it was my fault for running him on too firm ground,' said Nolan. 'The owners have been very patient. I'm delighted for John.'

Too Much Chat (5/1 to 2/1f) also supported plenty of money in the Kerry Petroleum Handicap Chase but couldn't find a way past Penny Hall in the closing stages.

It was a memorable day for Moone handler Vincent Clynch, who saddle his first winner when Backsideup sprang a 25/1 shock in the opening Shannon Maiden Hurdle.

Flare Star was a cosy winner of the Brandon Hotel (QR) Handicap while Charlies First also proved a convincing winner of O'Callaghan Family Hotels (QR) Handicap.

There was no fairytale ending for amateur Peter Fahey on his last ride as his mount Minnesota Leader found newcomer Luas Luso too strong in the closing stages of the bumper.
