Review GOWRAN PARK 9TH AUG

Flying Knight notched a hat-trick when running out a game winner at Gowran Park on Wednesday night.

Noel Lawlor's charge, who had provided Kieren Fallon with such a well-received win at Galway, proved a willing partner for him once again.

Fallon sent the gelding to the lead two furlongs out and he kept going strongly to score by a neck from Rookwith in the Golf Open Week at Gowran Park Handicap.

Mick Kinane and John Oxx teamed up to record a double on the card courtesy of So Well Red and Kerdem.

So Well Red (6/4 to 1/1f) was a warm order in the First (Group 3) at Gowran Park Maiden and made all for a cosy length-and-a-quarter success.

Kinane never had to get really serious with Kerdem as he edged out Tikraar by a head to make a winning debut in the concluding Kilkenny Maiden.

The Dermot Weld-trained Braydeen looked a smart type when making a winning debut in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, despite running green in the closing stages.

Pat Smullen sent the Barathea filly to the front inside the final two furlongs and she kept going well to score by a length-and-a-half from Eyshal.

Set Fire was sent to the front early in the straight in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap and never looked like being passed as she scored by a length from Sling Back.

Funatfuntasia took the opening Nursery in good style when scoring by two-and-a-half-lengths from Andalucia Lady while Paddy's Day got a lovely run up the rail to take the apprentice race under Michael Cleere.

On The Other Hand was the highlight of a treble for Charlie Swan and JP McManus at Sligo.

The Oscar gelding, a stylish winner at Galway on Sunday, followed up in similarly impressive fashion in the 30,000 Martin Reilly BMW Dealer Handicap Hurdle.

He got into the field as first reserve and made the most of the opportunity when quickening away from his field turning for home, under Denis Hogan, to score easily by five lengths.

Ruby Walsh notched number two when He's My Man defied a 549 day absence to take the Belfry Maiden Hurdle by a cosy length from Native Caroline.

Back To Square One was always prominent in the bumper, under JP Magnier, and kept on well down the straight to complete the haul for the team.

Davy Russell recorded a double on the card including a successful gamble on Third Level Tom in the Anglo Irish Bank Sligo Handicap Hurdle.

Charles Byrnes' gelding was backed from 5/1 to 5/2 but was all out to narrowly fend off the late challenge of Golden Moon by a short-head.

Russell went on to produce Jawad with a perfectly timed challenge to run out an easy nine-length winner of Div 2 of the Leo McMorrow Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

The first division had also seen a stylish winner in Charming Hymn, who cruised into the lead after the second last under Johnny Allen and went on to beat It's News To Me by three-and-a-half lengths.

Coin Man (4/6f) justified his short price when making all in the John Perry Novice Hurdle but 1/2 shot Lace Your Boots proved no match for Pagan Magic in the opening Maiden Hurdle.
