Review BELLEWSTOWN 4TH JUL

Jockey Fran Berry enjoyed sharply-contrasting fortunes as the Bellewstown Festival opened before a large crowd last evening.

Victorious aboard Seychelles in the Mount Hanover Maiden, the rider found himself in hot water with the stewards following his ride on Gerobies Girl in the Murphy Sand & Gravel Maiden.

After initially dishing out a three-day ban for careless riding, the stewards doubled Berry's penalty after deeming his attitude and behaviour towards them in the enquiry to be 'totally unacceptable'.

The event was won by Arboreta, who was completing a 21/1 double for jockey Seamus Heffernan after earlier scoring on Real Delight.

The latter, a creditable eleventh in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot on her previous outing, opened her account when readily taking the opening Kilsharvan EBF Maiden.

The Nicolotte filly drew clear of Princess Luna inside the last for a 2 1/2 length winning margin, providing Pat Carey with his first juvenile success as a trainer.

'It's a relief to see her win,' said Carey afterwards. 'She's very, very fast but at Ascot she ran too free,' he added of the home-bred, who may take in a Leopardstown winners' race for her next outing.

Berkeley Bay just held the late thrust of the gambled-on Ojay to capture the featured Oldbridge Concrete Handicap.

Apprentice Tadgh O'Shea, enjoying such a tremendous run at present, kept the 7/2jf up to her work to score by a neck, to the chagrin of those who had supported the runner-up into the same price from an early 11/2.

Muskerry King sprang a 16/1 surprise in the Farringtons Agri Handicap Hurdle, while Goldenhalo benefitted from a confident Ruby Walsh ride to land the Seamus Murphy Properties Balbriggan Hurdle.
