Jered Maddox stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to record his sixth win on the all-weather surface when taking the opening Book Online At DundalkStadium.com Handicap.

David Marnane 's eight-year-old gelding can usually be relied upon to give his running in this grade but after a trio of below par efforts in recent months he was sent off a relative outsider at 22-1 here.

Held up towards rear by jockey Luke McAteer in the initial stages, the gelding was switched to the stands rail as the field split into two groups entering the straight. Another Dundalk veteran, Tai Sing Yeh led the overall race on the far side.

The eventual winner still had plenty to do over a furlong from the finish but once McAteer got to the leaders he found a more than willing partner. Leading over 100 yards out, Jered Maddox stayed on strongly to win by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

Luke McAteer said: "The handicapper didn't miss him when he won in Laytown.

"He has been running well and has only been beaten a couple of lengths.

"He had come down that few pound and David's horses are running well. He is a talented horse on his day.

"Turning in, I had plenty to do and he went through the gears nicely, and picked up and won. Hopefully, there is another day in him."
