Impart came with a strong surge inside the final furlong to land the spoils in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Navan.

Pat Smullen sat in behind his rivals in the five furlong contest and switched the 3/1 shot to the outer with a furlong to run.

The Dermot Weld-trained son of Oasis Dream picked up well inside the final furlong and got to the front inside the final 100 yards.

He proved a length-and-a-half too strong for 10/11 favourite Oakledge who held every chance a furlong from home, and kept on in the closing stages to secure the runner-up spot.

"It was a battling performance, and he will go for a nursery,” said Weld afterwards.

“The Birdcatcher could well be a target for him. The bit of experience was certainly a help."
