Ado McGuinness is never shy about travelling with his horses and Go Athletico heads to Longchamp on Sunday for the Group 3 Prix De Saint-Georges.

The six-year-old Goken gelding won twice for current connections last year including at Group 3 level in the Renaissance Stakes on soft ground at the Curragh.

Go Athletico was subsequently third at Chantilly last autumn and flew over to Doha earlier this year. Regular partner Ronan Whelan was also aboard when third to Moss Tucker in the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Naas last month.

“He travelled over on Tuesday and is in good form,” said McGuinness.

“I just felt the ground could go here if we get a dry spell, so we just said we’d take our chance with him. I just hope it doesn’t dry up too quick.

“There is always good, lush grass there and the sprint track is fast but I think he’ll handle it well.

“Ronan is flying over to ride him and I’m looking forward to a good run plus he’s a French bred and he gets the French premiums as well. He’ll get a few extra quid if he wins or we’re placed.

“He was third there last year in a Group 3 in Chantilly.”
