Elwazeer lands gamble

Elwazeer landed a bit of a touch when running out a convincing winner of the first division of the mile handicap at Dundalk.

Wayne Lordan, recently returned from honeymoon, sent his mount on over a furlong out and the race was soon in safe keeping.

The David Nagle-trained gelding, backed from 14/1 into 7/1, kept on strongly in the closing stages to record a four-and-a-half length victory over Moonbi Creek

"After his first three runs we gave him a little break and he's after improving," said Nagle afterwards.

"He done it well and seemed to handle the surface. He's going the right way."

The Stewards enquired into the improvement of form of the winner and referred the matter on after finding Nagle had failed to report previous breathing problems.

The horse had laser treatment to correct a respiratory issue following his last run.

The handicapper Mark Bird stated that had he been aware of the horse's respiratory problem on his last run he would not have been liable for handicapping.
