Unlucky in running when unplaced in a higher grade at Down Royal on Monday, Distillate (7/1) had a clear run at things in the Goodenuftoeat Event Catering Handicap and proved far too good for her nine rivals.

Held up in mid-division towards the outer, the daughter of Havana Grey picked up well for Adam Caffrey to lead just under a furlong from home and kept on well to account for Art Of Unity by three lengths.

Owned by Mark Devlin, Nigel O'Hare and Philip Smith, this was a third win of the campaign for the three-year-old.

Winning trainer Ado McGuiness said: “I didn't think she'd do it that well. She was unlucky the other day in the north, she just got caught in a pocket down the rail and her chance went and Jamie (Powell) didn't murder her,&rdquo.

“We said we'd pull her out again here if she got in, we didn't know whether we would get balloted out or not.

“Adam was cool because they went quick early doors and he left them at it. She came at them well and he was good on her, it's hard to be patient in a five furlong sprint up here but he was.

“She handled the ground well and she's just improved with a little bit of a dig in it.

“She's in at Navan next week and I'd say I'll have to run her as it will be the last time she'll be in a 47-65 for a while when the handicapper gets a hold of her.”
