Bay Hill recorded his third career success as he took the St. John's Literary Centre Handicap under Fran Berry for Christy Roche and JP McManus.

The four-year-old son of Verglas disappointed on his seasonal reappearance at Limerick last month and he was sent off at 6/1 today.

Pushed along to lead he was ridden a furlong from home and he kept on well in the closing stages to score by a length and a quarter. Cairdiuil (12/1) finished second under Seamie Heffernan for Iggy Madden while Giorgi kept on well to take third a further half a length back under Declan McDonogh for Tim Doyle at 25/1. Jackemil who got in as a reserve, was sent off the 11/2 favourite (from 12's this morning and from 7's on-course) and she finished a disappointing twelfth under Gary Phillips for John Joe Walsh.

Fran Berry said afterwards: "He's quirky and is what he is but did it well and goes on any ground.

"He won over an extended mile on good ground at Killarney and that's his right trip."
