Approaching the final furlong, the winner, Lalania (GB), shifted left-handed causing the rider of Astrogem (GB), placed fourth, to have to take a check, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Lalania (GB).
The performance of Astrogem (GB), which started second-favourite and finished fourth, beaten by 8¼ lengths, was considered.
It was noted that the representative of Harry Eustace could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance on this occasion and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Astrogem (GB), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Divine Magic (GB), which started favourite and finished second, lost its left-fore shoe.
