FormscanBy Mark Nunan - FARCLAS ran some superb races in top handicaps last season and there is a big pot in him if he gets the breaks. His second to The Shunter at Cheltenham was a particularly good effort and there was little wrong with his fifth behind impressive winner Minella Times in the Grand National. He‘s been off since, but a chance is taken that he’ll be primed for a big run and Jordan Gainford’s 5lb claim will help. Gordon Elliott also runs the less exposed Conflated who had some strong novice form last term and has had the benefit of a pipe-opener on the Flat. No fewer than ten of these ran in the Galway Plate with Modus faring best in third. He should go well, while Plate fifth Darasso showed his liking for this course when beating former Kerry National hero Snow Falcon in June but is still a doubtful stayer over three miles. John Ryan will have been gutted that the rapidly improving mare Fairyhill Run missed the cut, but if she does get into the race as first reserve her claims are obvious after two really impressive wins in handicap chases this summer.
