Abeona sprang an 80/1 shock when running out an impressive winner of the TRI Equestrian Irish EBF Maiden at the Curragh.

The Acclamation filly was making her first outing today for Jimmy Coogan and proved tricky for Oisin Orr going to the start.

It was straight forward in the race, however, as she tracked the leaders on the far side and hit the front a furlong-and-a-half from home.

The four-year-old stretched clear inside the final furlong to record a three-and-a-half length win over Harannda

The winner had been placed four times when with Ger Lyons but had played up in the stalls and was withdrawn on her last two outings for Sarah Lynam.

Coogan said:- “She’s a grand filly and came to us from Sarah Lynam. She had a few stalls issues and we had to get her re-certed.

“If we can keep her mind right there is probably a bit more to get out of her. She’s tricky and you have to give her kid-glove treatment.

“I gave her an each-way chance but I didn’t think she was going to go and do it like that. If I did then I would have had a few quid on her!"
