Adam Farragher missed out on a second winner as Michael Halford doubled up in the Join Us On Instagram @dundalk_stadium Nursery Handicap with Going Global
Mikey Sheehy stepped in for the earlier Copper Beech Stables winner, Let Me Pass whilst it was Conor McGovern that steered home Going Global.
On her fourth outing and her first outside of maiden company, the successful Mehmas filly made light of a 100 day absence from action, switching to all-weather racing.
It was 6/1 ‘the field’ here, and 16/1 shot Going Global bettered Cursory Exam ‘at the death,’ by a length and a quarter.
Going Global dwelt and raced in rear, before making headway into sixth two furlongs out.
Pushed along to lead over a furlong out, the Halford runner stayed on well in the final furlong to confirm success.
“She had a lovely first run in Limerick but then she ran disappointing. I didn't know why and then I ran her back again to find out and she ran disappointing again,” said Halford.
“We just took our time with her and gave her a chance to mature a bit. She's after strengthening up a bit and I thought with her rating she might find it easier in a nursery rather than a maiden.
“I feel sorry for Adam, who has the flu, and is after missing two winners.
“Conor did very well. He was signed on to us as a young lad and rode a lot of winners for us.
“I told him 'you have a bad draw, take her back, drop her in and ride her to get lucky'. It worked out lovely.
“I'm delighted for Pioneer Racing, that's the first horse we have for them, and a good owner of ours Nicky Hartery bred her so it's a good win all around.”
S.T. McCullagh, rider of Dha Leath trained by Garvan Donnelly, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount was slowly into stride.
The Stewards enquired into an incident approximately one and a half furlongs from the finish involving Omakase ridden by A.C. Persse, and Collective Power ridden by M.A. Enright, where it appeared Collective Power checked. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied the the incident was caused by accidental interference and took no further action.
The Stewards requested a report from M.Halford, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Going Global, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that this filly had run well on her debut but had disappointed since. Today she probably appreciated the break since her last run, the step up in trip today and the All-Weather surface. He further added that she is from a family that progresses well. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
