After the big success earlier for the stable in Qatar with the Ronan Whelan partnered Bowerman, there was a win on the home front for Ado McGuinness with Betrayed (8s into 9/2 on the show) in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap.

Colin Keane did the steering on the Lethal Force filly and she disputed the lead briefly early, before soon chasing the leader.

Second at the halfway stage, Betrayed was ridden to press the leader a furlong out, leading close home to beat front-runner Stribling by half a length.

Stephen Thorne, assistant to McGuinness, said: “The filly did it well. Colin kept it very simple on her. She was unlucky not to win before now and we thought she was capable of winning a maiden.

“Hopefully she can win a couple of three-year-old handicaps. Six is a better trip and I’m delighted for Gary Devlin who owns her in partnership with Ado’s wife Hazel.”

Meanwhile on Bowerman's win in the the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cup in Doha Thorne reflected: - "It’s been a very special day. Ado’s brother Laurence passed away a few weeks ago so we all needed a bit of a lift. He was obviously looking down on us today.

“Ronan (Whelan) gave Bowerman a remarkable ride. We were drawn wide and the stats were against us but he was very cool on the horse.

“He picked up well and won well at the line. Our ex-apprentice Ian Brennan is representing us out there."

He added: “Ado is in Riyadh were we have Harry’s Bar and Saltonstall running tomorrow and fingers crossed we can get a bit of luck there.

“Saltonstall is prominent in the betting and his race has cut up so we just need a bit of luck. It’s a race for a million dollars, and Harry’s Bar is in the dirt sprint - a million and a half race. It’s dream stuff to even be represented by them.”
