The following is the report into the incident involving the start to the first race at Tramore today in which favourite Wilde Sapphire was left well behind at the start.

The Turf CLub report reads:

'The Stewards enquired into the circumstances surrounding the start of this race where Wilde Sapphire trained by Mr.Henry De Bromhead and ridden by A.E.Lynch appeared to be facing the wrong way when the race started and consequently started a considerable distance behind.

Evidence was heard from the starter Mr.P.L.Malone who stated that there were two false starts, the first one as a result of a fractious horse cutting in ahead of the field. The second false start was as a result of a malfunction of the starting tape, which failed to release and two jockeys were unseated. The starter concluded by saying that leading up to the actual start he was distracted by another fractious horse who had previously unseated his rider and as a result failed to notice A.E.Lynch facing the wrong way.

Evidence was also heard from the trainer and rider concerned.

Having considered the evidence the stewards allowed the result to stand, however they did refer the matter to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club for further investigation.'
