Sumptuary Law appreciated the step up to a mile when opening her account in the Now Racing Every Wednesday Nursery Handicap at Dundalk.

The Ger Lyons-trained filly had shown promise in three previous maiden outings at this venue but despite being ridden by champion Colin Keane, was sent off at 100/30 with stablemate Alto Sax supported into 5/2 favourite.

The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor made most of the running and kept on strongly inside the final furlong to beat Centuria by a length and a half. Seti was a further length and a quarter back in third with Alto Sax in fourth.

Lyons' brother and assistant trainer Shane said, "She's a very genuine filly and she was crying out for that trip.

“Fair play to Cian (Kennedy, owner) who is our vet. We could have nearly stopped with her but Cian was adamant that we try and get a bracket for her at two.

“She's got a good page and had a good update last year, when Cian bought her as a yearling, with her half-sister being placed twice in Grade Ones in the US.

“It helps for her to win at two. She'll have a nice break now and we'll bring her back next summer and have a bit of fun with her.”
