Review FAIRYHOUSE 13TH APR

Paul Carberry had mixed fortunes when partnering a winner but also later taking a heavy fall that forced him onto the sidelines with a wrist injury.

The former champion was one of a number of jockeys in the wars when taken to Blanchardstown Hospital for x-rays on both his wrists after a fall from Desert Island in the 2m4f handicap hurdle.

Turf Club doctor Walter Halley was particularly concerned about Carberry's right wrist, while Paddy Flood and Davy Condon were both bruised after falls and Robert Power didn't ride as he felt unwell.

The afternoon started well for Carberry when Reine Des Reines, third to subsequent Aintree winner Asian Maze here at Easter, justified favouritism in division one of the maiden hurdle.

The John Kiely-trained mare joined Cash And Carry over the last, and she got on top in the closing stages to score by half a length.

'That was overdue for a mare of her ability, although she was sick after disappointing at Leopardstown. I may find a race for her at Punchestown if the ground is on the easy side,' said Kiely.

Miss Toulon is also Punchestown-bound ground permitting after landing division two in the hands of Anthony Freeman.

Tom Mullins' charge led before two out and, despite Freeman losing his irons after the last, kept on well to beat Eckbeag by four lengths.

'A galloping track suits her and she'll go for the mares Listed hurdle at Punchestown, although she would need to get her toe in,' said Mullins.

Gone Walk About (paid 39.50 for a win on the Tote) didn't go unnoticed in the ring at 14/1, and the step up in trip proved the trick in the three miles handicap hurdle.

Robbie Colgan's mount held off Estarana by a head, and trainer Denise Foster said, 'He's a chaser really, and I can't wait to go over fences with him next season.'

'He loves this old place. It must be the short journey home!' quipped Tucker Geraghty after Leaders Way, ridden by his son Ross, landed the 2m4f handicap hurdle.

The 10/1 chance, paid nearly 18/1 on the Tote, struck the front two out and held the renewed effort of Burntoakboy by a length.

Quarry Boy overcame a two year absence in the 2m1f beginners chase, prominent throughout under Michael Darcy and kept on gamely in the straight to beat Some Buzz by four lengths.

The jackpot pool of e5,567 was not won, and is rolled over to tomorrow's first evening meeting of the year at Tipperary.

Feathered Storm took the 2m6f beginners chase in gutsy fashion, staying on under pressure from John Cullen to beat The Royal Dub by 3 1/2L.

Lord Alphieross survived a bad blunder at the last in the 2m4f handicap chase, and Barry Geraghty got him going again to just peg back Wise Counsel.
