The Frank Hynes-owned Kimbay made it two from two since joining trainer Iggy Lawlor when landing the opening John & Terry Moriarty Memorial Handicap at Listowel.
As was the case at Dundalk when victorious over five furlongs twelve days ago, Kimbay again had Rory Cleary on her back and he delivered the 10/1 shot with perfect timing.
The triumphant four-year-old daughter of Windsor Knot came from mid-division, after leaving her wide gate draw in twelve, and got up close home to touch off Teeline and Hatton Cross by half a length and a head.
"She went up 10Ibs for winning the last day – I thought it was a bit a harsh.
"Rory gave her a super ride though and it was the ride that won the race. He rides her out at home and she's a filly that has to come late.
"The ground is probably going to go for her now but she'll run in Dundalk over the winter. She'll run there over five or six furlongs.
"She doesn't handle any softer than she had there and she's not over big," explained Lawlor.
The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Teeline, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he used the whip with excessive frequency and having considered his record, suspended him for two race days.
R. Coakley, rider of Elzamay trained by Miss Elizabeth Doyle, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount burst blood vessells in running.
