Sparrow on course for Punchestown

Trainer John Quinn has confirmed Scottish Champion Hurdle heroine Cockney Sparrow will line up at the Punchestown Festival next week.

The five-year-old mastered Court Minstrel and Champion Hurdle runner-up My Tent Or Yours at Ayr earlier this month, having previously finished fifth behind the incredible Quevega at the Cheltenham Festival.

Quinn is looking forward to seeing his charge return to Grade One level in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Champion Hurdle at Punchestown on Saturday week.

He said: "At the moment, we intend to run Cockney Sparrow. She is fine after her race at Ayr and has taken the race well. It was a good performance and I was very pleased with her. She was the only filly in the race and showed a lot of guts.

"I would not be worried about stepping up slightly in trip. She stays well and has speed. I don't know if Cheltenham is her track, but Punchestown should be OK for her.

"It will be tough if Annie Power turns up, but you should never be afraid of one horse."
