Sweet Sting You can't beat breeding; she is not exactly an oil painting, is a small, simple little mare with crooked front legs. If we put her in the sale as a three-year-old she'd make nothing but people forget it's what is in the heart and in the head that counts. It doesn't matter that she has windey action and isn't the biggest as she can still come up with the results. She is a serious mare on that ground and jumps like a buck on it and has a lot of reserves. She is improving and hopefully will keep improving.

Rubiana Rubiana came to me a year ago and she has been second and placed. She seems to love it around here and JJ gave her a brilliant ride. She did it really well. I expected her to run well but when I looked up and saw she was favourite I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t know if the trip would be ideal but there was nothing else for her coming up. The ground suited her perfectly, it didn’t suit her last week in Punchestown and went against her. I have 16 in at the minute and I’m in Dromara, Co Down — only 20 minutes from here.

Sweet Sting She's an exceptional little mare, a great stayer,. I was a little afraid of the ground, it's lively enough out there and she needs it softer. She got away with it. We'll try and find another handicap for her and hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on her as she's not really built to carry weight but her determination got her through today. If she turns out as good as her mother (Sweet Kiln) I won't complain. Brian (Hayes) rode a tremendous race on her and judged it to perfection. She likes sitting off the pace as she panics when there are horses behind her, so you just have to drop her out. It took us a while to find that out about her. Maybe in time she'll learn to settle in front but at the minute we have to drop her out in her races. It's about time I trained a winner, at one stage I thought I'd never train another winner!. I'm relieved as I thought there was some curse on me. Hopefully there are more to come. I'll have a glass of wine when I go home and celebrate in style.

More Info She had different conditions to Galway and while Patrick (Mullins) got to dictate things in Galway, we got him to dictate things for us today; he is a nice man to have on your side in those races. We persevered with bumpers as she had run well against so many good mares and I'd imagine we might try and nick black-type over hurdles at some stage. She is from a good family and for a Scorpion her mind is very right; I'm delighted for (owner) Tim Conroy who has been with me a long time, is a great patron and a nice man.

Breakeven He is a gorgeous horse who won two point to points. He showed a nice bit of speed in his point to points and we thought he'd win a bumper. Denis Murphy had him previously and I got him in May; he came alive on me in the last week and we were waiting on (easy) ground to run him. I'm sure he has the speed for two mile and he will definitely go hurdling now.

Mary Fields I train in Cappoquin and that's my first winner on the track, but I've had a few point-to-point winners before. I got into racing through hunting, I used to hunt and one thing just led to another. We fancied her big time today when the ground came quick. She has been waiting all year for quick ground and we just couldn't get it, everywhere we went it just kept coming up yielding.

She'stherightone I'm delighted with that as she threatened to do it last year. Simon gave her a fabulous ride — he put her to sleep. It's great for the lads that own her (Right Ones Syndicate). They're good friends and I'm delighted for them.
