Following concerns raised by the riders at the start regarding the low sun obscuring their vision at the fences in the back straight, the Stewards consulted with the Clerk of the Course and ordered that these obstacles should be by-passed for this race.
The winner, Great Tempo (FR), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Ffos Las on 22 November 2019 where the gelding finished fourth of the six finishers, beaten by 17½ lengths.
David Pipe’s explanation that Great Tempo (FR) may have benefitted from its previous run, having been off the track for 137 days and during which the gelding had a wind-operation, was noted.
Great Tempo (FR) was routine tested.
Approaching the first bend, Clondaw Ace (IRE), unplaced, edged slightly right-handed before being corrected by its rider, moving Lizzie Langton (GB), which was later pulled up, onto Troed Y Melin (IRE), which later unseated its rider, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Clondaw Ace (IRE).
Bryan Carver, the rider of Troed Y Melin (IRE), was unseated rounding the bend exiting the back straight on the first circuit.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident.
It was found that the incident was accidental and was caused by Troed Y Melin (IRE) becoming unbalanced rounding the bend, making contact with the rail which resulted in Carver being unseated.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Mogestic (IRE), which was pulled up, was struck into on its left fore.
