An enquiry was held following a report from the Equine Welfare and Integrity Officer (EWIO) that he had seen ice cubes on the floor outside the box of WARRIOR GODDESS, trained by John Butler. The EWIO, the Veterinary Officer, and the representative of John Butler were interviewed. The representative of John Butler explained that another employee of the trainer had been under instruction to ice the legs of WARRIOR GODDESS prior to the race, and that they had been unaware of the Rule prohibiting the icing of any part of a horse within two hours of the start time of the race. The Veterinary Officer reported that the numbing effect of the ice could mask an underlying injury and that she would be unable to accurately and reliably examine WARRIOR GODDESS. As such, she recommended that the filly should not run on welfare grounds. The Stewards ordered WARRIOR GODDESS to be withdrawn and routine tested, and fined Butler A#140.
