An enquiry was held into the running and riding of GOLDEN WHISKY (IRE), ridden by Adam Wedge, and trained by Evan Williams, which appeared to be tenderly ridden in the home straight to finish fifth, beaten 26 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to make the running, ifno- one else went on, but in any case to be very handy. He stated that he was able to carry out these instructions and went wide into the straight to get the better ground In the home straight he felt GOLDEN WHISKY (IRE) was tiring. He added that, after giving the gelding several slaps down the shoulder, GOLDEN WHISKY (IRE) did not pick up. He therefore held on to its head to ensure it got home, bearing in mind the gelding had fallen last time out. The trainer confirmed the instructions. Their explanations were noted
