Owner JP McManus completed a late double on the card at Listowel when the Martin Brassil-trained Vent De La Cote sprang a 25/1 shock in the finale.

Well backed 2/1 favourite Great Trango hit the front turning for home in the three-mile handicap hurdle but was joined at the second last by the French-bred.

Mark Walsh sent his mount on before the final flight and he went on to record a two-and-a-half length win.

Brassil, “He lost his way a bit over fences and I suggested earlier this year to put him back over hurdles to try and get his confidence back.

“He had a run in Ballinrobe but he’s a soft ground horse and we weren’t able to run him again until now.

“I was just hoping that he would run well as it was competitive enough. He could be a country horse over fences but is just not as good over a fence as a hurdle.”

McManus has also landed the feature event with Ballyoisin
