Brave Display just got the better of Gopsies Daughter in the PlusVital Powered By Equinome Handicap.
Twice successful at Dundalk over the winter months, the son of Requinto was providing his rider Cian MacRedmond with his second career success this afternoon.
Settled in mid-division in stands side group, he was ridden and powered home in the centre of the track from the furlong pole, prevailing by a head.
Gopsies Daughter (25s this morning and from 14s to 10s on-course) also raced in the stands side group, and she was the one just denied, with Wayne Lordan aboard this Denis Hogan trained seven-year-old. New Identity (25s to 16s on-course) kept on well to take third, another three lengths back, while 50/1 chance Coto was half a length away in fourth. Sweetest Taboo was sent off the 6/1 favourite (11s in early shows and from 7s on-course), and she finished a disappointing eighteenth.
"I'm delighted. He's been up in Dundalk and I knew he needed a break from there," said Prendergast.
"I was worried that the ground would be so soft and he had a lot of weight.
"I spoke to Willie (McCreery) and said to him I might claim. He said that horses run for Cian.
"Cian's father Mark is my vet so it was a great result.
"He's a great fun horse and is after winning four races in the last 12 months. I thought he was as high as he wants to be and the 10lb claim was the key."
STEWARDS REPORTS
The Stewards interviewed D.P. McDonogh, rider of Pillar (GB), concerning the fact that he appeared to move across before reaching the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered evidence from the rider, the Stewards were satisfied that D.P. McDonogh was in breach of Rule 211. Having taken his good recent record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned D.P. McDonogh.
The Stewards interviewed K.J. Leonard, rider of Doonard Prince concerning the fact that he appeared to move across before reaching the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered evidence from the rider, the Stewards were satisfied that K.J. Leonard was in breach of Rule 211. Having taken his good recent record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned K.J. Leonard.
The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Rapid Reaction concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race, considered the evidence and noted the veterinary report the Stewards were of the opinion that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with his arm above shoulder height and R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive force. Having taken his recent record into consideration, the Stewards suspended J.A. Heffernan for 3 racedays.
D.P. McDonogh, rider of Pillar (GB) trained by Adrian McGuinness, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount anticipated the start twice and banged his head off the gates before jumping out of stalls.
M.A. Gallagher, rider of Chosen Rock trained by Francis Casey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped out well but after a short distance the filly appeared to lose her action and became detached from the other runners.
