Silver Sale proves a success again

Thursday's DBS Silver Yearling Sales followed the positive trend set by the Premier Sales with increases across the board as trainers and Breeze Up buyers actively targeted the 120 yearlings on offer.

The Silver Sales moved to its current date last year which proved a resounding success and yesterday saw it take another positive step forward with a number of major buyers including Stephen Hillen and Kevin Ryan, who purchased five yearlings, as well as David Redvers, Willie Browne, Bobby O'Ryan, BBA Ireland, Ann Duffield etc. all purchasing yearlings.

The average showed solid growth, up 12% to £13,641 while the clearance rate finished at 83%. The top of the market also showed growth with 24 yearlings making above £20,000, upon 14 last year.

The sale was topped by Cooneen Stud's Zoffany colt (Lot 631) which was purchased by Harrowgate Bloodstock. The price was also matched by Throckmorton Court Stud's Yorgunnabelucky colt (Lot 638) which was purchased by Mark Johnston Racing.

DBS' Managing Director Henry Beeby commented:

"The DBS Silver Sales is always going to have a hard act to follow coming hot on the heels of the Premier Sales and never more so that this year following a stunning renewal of our flagship sale.

"Last year the move from Leger week to this new date allowed us to grow the sale by a huge amount so a further growth of those figures is most gratifying.

"We are grateful to our vendors who supported Silver and are delighted that we delivered them a viable second tier sale that has been well attended by a strong buying bench."
