Preview leopardstown 23rd Oct

Zawraq finally graces a racecourse again in the Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown on Sunday.

After landing the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial in the spring of last year, the son of Shamardal was a leading contender for the Investec Derby, only to meet with a setback just days before the Epsom Classic, and he hasn't been seen in competitive action since.

He makes a welcome return in this Listed affair and even if only 80 per cent ready to roll, he should still prove too strong for the likes of Round Two, Santa Monica and stable companion Maneen.

Hibiscus was only sixth when favourite for a Listed heat at Naas last week but is another threat, and her trainer Aidan O'Brien has claims of Group Three glory, with Spirit Of Valor, Taj Mahal and Pipes Of Peace all representing him in the Killavullan Stakes.

This appears to be a warm renewal, though, with Jim Bolger saddling Curragh scorer Holistic Approach, Ger Lyons running Naas winner Territory, and John Oxx's Born To Be arriving on the back of a Listed second at Fairyhouse.

The O'Brien-trained Key To My Heart is edging ever closer to the winner's enclosure and she sets the standard in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at 1.30, and her stable has no less than five contenders for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden, all of whom are newcomers and of which Ruler Of The World's brother Belgravia makes most appeal.

Perfect Storm, yet another inmate at the Ballydoyle yard, has been hit with a 5lb penalty for Wednesday's Navan success, which takes him to top weight for the Leopardstown Club Members Nursery Handicap.

Coolfighter struck at Gowran a day earlier and now takes in the Flat Finale October 29th Handicap, while Snoozing Indian is another ro make a swift reappearance and tries to back up last week's Naas victory in the Leopardstown Christmas Festival Handicap.
