The first division of the mile apprentice handicap at Dundalk saw two course and distance winners go to post and the pair, Twistsandturns and Settle For Red finished first and third respectively.

Settle For Red missed the break from stall 13 and had to drop in at the rear of the 14 runners as Wild Flower took them along from Tribal Path Twistsandturns raced in fourth for Gary Halpin.

Twistsandturns was third with over half a mile remaining. Halpin was seen in the drive position as his mount responded to get on terms with Tribal Path and Wild Flower with more than a furlong to travel.

The final furlong saw Twistsandturns and Tribal Path fight out a protracted battle and it was the former who edged ahead close home to get up by a neck at 7/1. Tribal Path was second at 33/1.

Settle For Red finished well to take third at 8/1 just ahead of a bunch finish from the horse in fourth (Athloman Cottage) through to eighth-placed Easy Boy

Handler Pat Flynn said: "That's four races he's won now and his mother also won four for us. He likes it here and will come back over the winter."
