Tithonus was just pipped by Soie D'Leau (14-1), who provided trainer Kristin Stubbs with the most lucrative success of her career in the sunbets.co.uk Top Price Templegate Tips Handicap at Doncaster.

Denis Hogan's five-year-old went into the race having won six of his previous nine starts and was sent off the 10-1 co-favourite, but went down by a short head.

Stubbs said of the winner: "He has an unbelievable attitude - he's so tough. He's been on the go all year, he goes on any ground and he's just been amazing.

"He's taken us to Newmarket and Goodwood and ran at the Curragh last time. To have runners at the big tracks on a Saturday is great. He's won three big ones for us this year now and the plan before this was to give him a break.

"Dubai is tempting, but he has had a long year, so we'll see. Whatever happens he'll have a month off. I think he could improve again next year. He could be Listed class."

Rosie Briar tenaciously stuck to her guns to cause an upset in the Scott Dobson 30th Birthday Memorial Doncaster Stakes.

Andrew Balding's filly shaped with plenty of encouragement on her Windsor debut in June and confirmed that promise with a maiden success at Haydock last month.

However, stepped up to Listed class, the daughter of Mayson had plenty to find with several of her rivals on official rivals and she was a 20-1 shot under talented apprentice Rob Hornby.

Never far off the pace, Rosie Briar battled her way to the front shortly after passing halfway and refused to bend in the last of six furlongs, seeing off Tomily by half a length.

"That was very good and it was very nice of Andrew and the owners to leave me on her, as I couldn't use my claim with it being a Listed race," said Hornby.

"We've always liked her at home and although there's not a lot of her, she tries her heart out. I was quietly confident.

"There's slight ease in the ground, which suits her, and she toughed it out well.

"She has a lot of early speed and it's always nice to know you've got the gears to go through if you need them."
