Gustavus Weston will bid to continue Joe Murphy’s strong finish to the season when he lines up in the €120,000 Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Final which heads a quality card at Naas on Sunday.

A total of 27 horses remain in the finale of the season-long series and Murphy looks to have one of the strongest contenders in Gustavus Weston.

The Equiano gelding progressed from an encouraging debut fourth at Gowran to win nicely over six furlongs at Fairyhouse late last month.

Meanwhile, Murphy has his form in terrific shape at present having sent out four winners in the last 10 days.

“He’s working nicely and we’ve been very happy with him since he won at Fairyhouse last month,” said the trainer’s son Joe.

“We did consider the Killavullan Stakes for him but this race was always his target and it’s a very valuable pot so he will head to Naas.

"He’s going to have to give weight all round but we are pleased with how he is going and hopefully he will line up with a decent chance on Sunday. The step up to seven furlongs should him well too.”
