Ice Cold Soul opened his account over hurdles when defying topweight in the Cardinal Capital Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown.

The full-brother to smart types in Western Leader and Outlander had previously won a point-to-point and two bumpers and scored here at odds of 10/1.

The Stowaway gelding was prominent throughout, and driven out by Jonathan Moore on the run-in to beat Shannak by two lengths.

The pair stretched 11 lengths clear of Tongie in third, with Cast Notre Gris completing the placings in fourth.

Winning trainer Noel Meade said, “He’s a full brother to two good horses but his jumping has been a bit scatty.

“However he was the one horse of mine that really worked out of his skin before Christmas.”
