Trainer William Haggas is not ruling out a tilt at the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket with his Racing Post Trophy hero Rivet.
Winner of the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month, the Fastnet Rock colt failed to run up to expectations when tackling the Rowley Mile for the first time in the Dewhurst Stakes.
He looked more at ease back on the more conventional terrain of Town Moor on Saturday, dominating from the front to provide jockey Andrea Atzeni with a fourth successive victory in the Group One event.
Post-race, connections appeared lukewarm on the idea of a return to Newmarket next spring, with the trainer's wife Maureen raising the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the French equivalent as alternatives.
However, Haggas feels it would be foolish to make any hasty decisions.
"He pulled out great this morning and we're very happy," said the Somerville Lodge handler.
"We didn't think we saw the best of him at Newmarket and he rectified that yesterday.
"My initial reaction was not to go back to Newmarket, but we'll see. He'll probably get an entry and we've got a lot of time to think about it.
"The Guineas is the Guineas and as an Englishman, the English Guineas is much more attractive than the French or the Irish.
"I've no idea whether he would need a run beforehand. I haven't got that far yet."
Rivet carries the colours of the the Starship Partnership, which is made up of legendary jockey Lester Piggott and leading owners John Magnier and Michael Tabor.
Magnier and Tabor already have red-hot favourite Churchill and the exciting Caravaggio in contention for the Guineas at Newmarket, among others, and Haggas admits they are likely to have a big say in which direction Rivet takes.
"A lot will depend on what the owners want to do," the trainer added.
