Que Sera Sera bounded away from her rivals to comfortably land the extended mile fillies’ maiden which opened Wexford’s card.
David Wachman’s filly was racing for the fifth time and stepped up a place from coming in runner-up at Ballinrobe last-time out. She had the aid of cheekpieces today for the first time. Celestial Fable in the first-time blinkers, broke smartly to lead under Wayne Lordan. Fran Berry sporting the JP McManus colours on board Que Sera Sera was content to track the leader in second throughout. Approaching the two pole Que Sera Sera was going much the better than the leader who was being ridden along. Berry soon pushed the 11/4 favourite into the lead and she forged on determinedly.
Kevin Prendergast’s Taaluf made good headway from fifth to pursue her in the last furlong and a half. She kept on well without reaching the winner and went down by two and a quarter lengths at 9/2. There was a nine-length gap back to Craic Agus Spraoi who was making her debut for Jim Bolger.
JP McManus’ racing manager Frank Berry commented: “She did it grand and she likes that ground. She got a good position and she stayed on nicely. She is a consistent filly and it is nice to get the win. She is a handy thing and she might be able to win a handicap before the end of the season.
“She could go hurdling next year. It looked like she was coming through to win the last day at Ballinrobe and the cheekpieces probably helped her today.”
Dermot Weld’s Comtesse, who was the morning price favourite in the newspapers, was a non runner due to being in season.
