Plumpton is the sole National Hunt meeting to survive the cold snap after eventually getting the go ahead following a number of inspections this morning.

Clerk of the course Mark Cornford held an initial check at 8am after temperatures dropped below freezing overnight, and a further inspection took place at 10am.

The track tweeted earlier this morning: “The temperature had dipped to -3 after arrival and won’t get above zero until between 9 & 10am, but we want to give it every chance. With the forecast for sunshine and temperatures to rise to 5, we are hopeful.”

The 10am inspection proved inconclusive and a decision was delayed until after a further examination of the track at mid-day.

The six-race card eventually started seven minutes late at 1.57pm, while there are also all-weather cards at Chelmsford City and Kempton Park.

The weather already claimed today's scheduled meeting at Market Rasen.
